Removing barriers for disadvantaged groups in accessing education and services

Improving integration of and access to educative materials for girls with visual impairment

According to GEES research center, 1.6 percent of the population of Ethiopia is blind — that makes around 250,000 people. Microfinance organizations reported that persons with disabilities only accounted for 0.5 percent of their clients at the maximum. According to the World Bank, continuing to exclude persons with disabilities from economic development programs results in the loss of 5–7 percent of GDP. In Ethiopia, 95 percent of all persons with disabilities are estimated to live in poverty (Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs).

Addressing socio-economic challenges through active citizenship

In Ethiopia, many young people search for jobs to gain their living. Due to limited skills and employment opportunities, they often end-up in poverty. On the other hand, there are missing services in the country. The project inspires young people to solve both – by Active Citizenship and Social Enterprise. Active Citizenship encourages people to play an active role in the society and its development, and to actively search for and create solutions.

Three Generations Proud to Say No to FGM

The project breaks through educative and entertaining activities, as a natural way of communication, the silence on female genital mutilation (FGM). It gives space to open inter-generation and intergender dialogue, sets role models and ambassadors speaking out against the practice, and overcomes the fear of social exclusion when FGM not performed.
