Remarkable Milestones

Major Achievements

Institutional Capacity Building

ECYDO transformed itself from a simple club to a youth NGO.
It also strengthens its institutional capacity and professional
competency constantly via the continuous organizational
capaci- ty-building process. As a result, the organization
employs more than 12 professionals and has well-equipped
office premises, internet and library felicities operational
manuals such as personnel, financial, strategic plan document,and others

Programs development and management

The organization has been contributing to children and youthinitiated and leaded developmental programs and projects including HIV/AIDS, Sexual and reproductive health, Genderbased violence, children talent development, youth entrepreneurship, and income generation activities since its establishment. Using these programs and projects, the organization has so far been able to reach more than 50,000 children and youth beneficiaries

IEC/BCC interventions

The organization established and has been providing
technical, material, and financial support for 4 out-of-school
and 5 in-school Boy’s groups, 10 out-of-school SRH and antiAIDS associ- ations, 2 in-school SHR help points (information,
coun- seling, and referral centers) that are established to
address HIV/AIDS and SRH problem, gender, gender-based
violence, and discriminations.

Youth leadership

We enabled more than 200 youth leaders to exercise and
realize leadership concepts and practices by establishing
youth SRH and Anti-AIDS clubs, providing leadership training,
and experience exchange exposure events.

Networking and collaboration

ECYDO is one of the founding and board chairs of the
Consortium of Youth Development Organizations in Ethiopia
(CoYDOE) which is the youth-based Organizations network in
Ethiopia. The organization is also a founding member of the
Ethiopian Youth Network, Youth Network for Sustainable
development, and Youth to Youth ASRH Addis Net-work /YYAANET. It is also a member of the consortium of the Christian
Relief and Development Association (CCRDA), the Consortium
of Reproductive Health Organi- zation, Population, Health and
Environment Network (PHE), the International Council on
Management of Popula- tion Programs (ICOMP)

Children development

It has been providing talent and psychosocial support for more than 350 orphan and vulnerable children.

Participation and representation

The organization has been participating and representing
Ethiopian youth in various national and international workshops, meetings, conferences, and experience-sharing events such as the 4th African conference on sexual health, the 1st Pan African seminar on working with boys and young men to address gender-based violence and discriminations, Ethio-Britain Global Exchange (with voluntary service overseas (VSO), etc.

Assist national policies

The various programs/projects of the organization have been contributing to the realization of national development policies and strategies such as National youth policy, national urban and rural youth pack- age, National SRH strategy, National HIV/AIDS policy as well as prevention and control strategies.

Youth friendly services

It has been providing youth friendly counseling and sexual and reproductive health services for more than 2,000 young women and men who were exposed to various SRH-related problems such as gender-based violence, unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and others.

Club establishment and strengthen

The organization established and has been providing

Job opportunity Creation

The organization has been serving as a training professional carrier development center for more than 65 young women and men who are currently working in various NGOs, Governmental organizations, art centers (theaters house), and business enter- prizes.

Training provisions

It has trained 500 Training of Trainers (TOT) and 5000 peer educators that facilitate the provision of Sexual and Reproductive Health information and services for young
people to practice safer sexual life.

Remarkable Milestones

Our accomplishments in the last 5 years

  • Increased number of approved grants, which enabled us to increase the number of projects and beneficiaries, and consequently helped us to gain new experience;
  • Expansion of staff and thereby enhancement of our internal capacities;
  • Staff capacitation in more than 50 trainings on various topics, e.g. project management, monitoring, and evaluation, leadership, communication skills, resource mobilization, safeguarding, etc.;
  • Improvement of internal processes and organization, including internal working documents and ethical policies.
  • Expansion of staff and thereby enhancement of our internal capacities;
  • Diversification of our target areas. In the past we were mainly active in Addis Ababa, now we are newly active in the Oromia region Arsi zone and Adama City Administration.
  • Use of the United Nations Online Volunteering program and its international volunteers to enhance our capacities. In the last 5 years we cooperated with more than 50 volunteers from all around the world
